Why I am running

I am often asked why would I leave a state senate position to serve as mayor – simply because I care about Houston and its citizens who want to be safe to live, work, and raise their families in our great city.

I believe using my experience and commitment to public service we will make Houston even better. I want to come closer to the issues I have debated in Austin and come closer to the people who share my love of this city.

I know together we can improve our neighborhoods with better streets, garbage pickup, flood control, transportation, and a more affordable Houston.

However, I also believe it starts with public safety, increased law enforcement resources, and better coordination of the 80 police agencies operating in Houston. We must also improve operations and resources for fire and EMS.

I am often asked, "Why are you running for mayor?" Again, it is always the same answer - I care.

The truth is Houston is a great city. We are not New York or Chicago. We are Houston where diverse people can come together to solve any problem. But Houston needs to elect an experienced person to be mayor – not someone shopping around for someplace to start a political career.

Houston needs someone who is a uniter and whose one goal is to make a difference in the lives of all Houstonians.

Together we can get the job done. Let’s get to work.
